Nicaragua Fact

Nicaragua has the lowest crime rate in Central America. Common fighting ended in the 1990's. This means that all travel in Nicaragua is completely safe, unlike traveling in most other Central American countries. Not a single attack against a tourist has occured in the last 8 years, compared to about 20 attacks a day in Mexico! The one to be careful of is the Managuan beggers. They will do anything to feed their families. Most families live on $365 a year. Jewelry is not reccromended to wear in Managua. Anyone should feal safe traveling to Nicaragua.

Droughts in Nicaragua

Nicaragua is expierencing major droughts in the northern part of the country, including the capital, Managua. These droughts are completley wiping out the crops in half of the country. Famers are finding that all of their crops are dying. This is expelling the harvest for over ten-thousand farmers. Nicaragua is already the second poorest country in the western hemisphere. This is almost as devistating for them as the earthquakes for the people of Haiti. Agricultural officials are saying that this will probably lead to a famine. This is leading to a great debate between Agricultural Associations (expect famine) and the Sandinista Administration (who insist that there is plenty of food). This seems like a small thing, but it could be devastating for everyone in Nicaragua.
